Description

The vineyard hike is something for wine lovers. A 15 kilometre hike takes you to renowned Moselle winegrowers in the holiday region. One invites you into the cellar, the other into the vinotheque - another into the great outdoors. A total of five wineries are served. Which wineries they are is not yet revealed. In any case, hikers can enjoy the wide variety of a Moselle Riesling. There are three tastings available in each winery. In between there is a warm meal for everyone.

On the way along sections of the Moselle Trail (stage 10) and local hiking trails, the route leads from Bernkastel-Kues via Lieser, Maring-Noviand and Brauneberg to Osann-Monzel. Six renowned wineries invite you to stop for a bite to eat on the approximately 15 kilometre long route. The sights along the way are also attractive. In addition to the Cusanus Abbey at the very beginning, there is the Cusanus birthplace in Kues, the former Thurn and Taxis´sche Poststation in Lieser, the Lieserer Schoss and the Klosterhof in Siebenborn. The Brauneberg mountain with its steep slopes is the place where the warmest temperatures in Germany are measured. The wineries "Cusanus-Hofgut" (worldwide the only Red Cross winery) and "St. Nikolaus Hospital" (one of the oldest foundations in the German-speaking area, founded in 1458) are among the top wineries of the Moselle. The wines of both wineries can be tasted in the Vinothek in Kues at the start of the winery hike. We continue along the Moselle and through the vineyards to Lieser, where there are more fine wines to be tasted at the "Schloss Lieser" winery - at Thomas Haag, Winzer of the Year 2015. A detour into the glacial valley of the Moselle follows. For in ancient times the Moselle flowed through the valley north of Lieser and formed a more expansive Moselle loop in the Liesertal and the Wittlicher Valley than today. The winery "Arthur Melsheimer" in the Klosterhof Siebenborn is located there and the next good address. The wine cellar of the Klosterhof is with over 850 years the oldest of the region. Back to the Moselle it goes now on the Brauneberg, where in the shelter the Brauneberger vineyard presents itself to monastery yard (recently distinguished of the Vinum Weinguide Germany). We continue on the Moselsteig and finally stop in Osann-Monzel, where the winery "Robert Brösch" celebrates its love for wine. From here the bus transfer back to Bernkastel-Kues is organised.

Price: 34 € incl. VVK per person (incl. 1 wine glass, 15 tasting wines, 1 warm meal, transfer)
